Lauren’s post yesterday got me wondering “why DO people actually read this blog?”. There are a couple dozen blogs that I read on an almost daily basis, the reasons for which vary from me thinking they’re awesome to me finding them to be absolute train wrecks and I just can’t look away.
Personally I don’t read anything without pictures, or anything super rambly, or anything “educational”. But I know we’re all different and find different things appealing so, like I’m sure most of us did, I started doing a little introspection about the why. I don’t have a lot of rhyme or reason or structured plan behind my content (which is probably not news to most of you), I just write about whatever I feel like writing about, so I’m sure this place mostly seems to contain a lot of pointless rambling. I would never have imagined when I started that I would end up with as many regular readers as I do now, or that anyone would ever really give a crap about anything I had to say. And that one time this silly little slice of the internet got 1,049 unique visitors in one day.. whaaaa?
So – out of genuine curiosity (and please be honest) – what brings you here?
Again – be honest! Even if it’s not nice. I don’t have internet feelings, so whatever.

I really don’t think there’s a rhyme or reason to what blogs I read. Plain and simple it comes down to if I like what you have to say, your blog is pretty (that’s a 100% valid reason), and/or I like the topics you post about, I’ll read it.

Okay, so my vote was for “enabler,” but also I know you in real life and your horse it cute. I have no idea what drives me to read horsey blogs, other than your tack swap got me started on it and now I find that I really enjoy reading what other horse-crazy people have to say (which I already knew from reading the popular magazine websites).

I follow a lot of blogs, usually it starts off because I either found you or you found me or one of my close friends found you and then it becomes a habit of reading or a meandering back because why not? I rarely ever STOP following a blog, it would have to become really, really bipolar to give me PTSD from that relationship I had with a bipolar person or you have to stop blogging for a long stretch of time that I forget you exist and move onto another shiny.

I don’t mind the “randomness” of your blog at all. You have a writing style that is fun and easy to read and comes across as uniquely “you”. And it doesn’t hurt that Henry is adorable.

I mean, C, all of the above? (Well, no, not the trainwreck one.) So often for me it has to be a variety of things: interesting story, good pictures, different sort of angle, individual voice. One-note blogs get old for me unless they’re really knowledgeable. My own blogging style tends to be all over the map, so I guess it’s the people and the horses behind the internet code that I get interested in!

I can’t answer the poll because, well, it will only let me pick ONE ANSWER. While we haven’t met in real life, we were friends before the blog, so I like reading and keeping up with your adventures. I am totally jealous of your style. It is 1000 times better than mine. I like to see all the neat things you buy. Plus, Henry is totally awesome and I love reading about your adventures.

For me, I think a big appeal of your blog is you go do stuff. I am still trying to get my youngster to that point where we can take field trips. Vicarious living?

I don’t remember how I found your blog but I really like it. you take the time to find sales and tack so I don’t have to. I also like your style with Henry and his laid back personality. I have no shame but I totally stalk you on social media and as a fellow Area 5 eventer in North Texas, I hope to randomly and creepily run into you at a show some day, once again no shame.

I like reading about people who do fun things. Showing. XC Schooling. Lessons. Grooming. Cute horse. Trail rides. Pictures. And finding about new products that I might need/want is fun, too.

I voted ‘Other’, mostly cause its a combo. Your pony is cute, you enable me, and you seem pretty cool. Plus, you ride some of my favorite stallions, have tattoos, and amazing taste in general. I feel like we should be best friends. Also, I envy your riding. You’re a fantastic rider and I wish I could be a fraction of as good as you are. But, in the same light, that inspires me to want to be better 🙂

how to only choose one!! the blogs i follow cover a huge variety of disciplines and formats. it’s honestly just inspiring to read how other horse-loving people integrate their hobby into their lives. your blog in particular seems to be at a pretty cool place right now, with refocusing your riding goals. plus, ya know, shopping… lol
