The hurricane did us the favor of lowering our temperatures a bit, which the horses are quite happy about, including the mares and foals.
I mean… their enthusiasm doesn’t last for long because they ARE still in the boring phase, but we got a few minutes of good shots this morning of them all looking a bit more alive than they have been.
And then there was Andy, who was completely uninterested in partaking.
It didn’t take long for them to run themselves out, and then they all stood there in various stages of snorting. Which is fine, because sometimes it makes for good pictures.
We’re getting very close now to weaning time, we’ll probably pull the two oldest ones here in the next couple weeks!

Uh-O! Weaning season – I always feel sorry for the littles. No growing into independence; it is just thrust upon you one fine morning just as it’s getting cool enough to really play, play, play. But, like all Moms – probably like the first day of school after a loooong summer. Except, of course, they don’t get off the bus at 3:00 pm. ‘Manda, I always wondered if the moms would miss the littles if they didn’t hear them screaming? Please, someone, let this city girl know.

It depends on the mare. Some of them walk away and never look back, others are upset for a day or two. Usually they seem generally relieved to have some alone time again.

Glad you made it through the hurricane without major damage or drama! And a reprieve from the heat must feel great. Rue is looking so beautiful in her transitional color.

Sorry if I missed it, did Andy’s DNA test come back yet?
